An Embarrassment Of Thugs

Like clockwork (and as we predicted), here comes the ingratitude one would expect from Turkey’s sleazy Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his fellow thugs, as (the) Turkey opts out of NATO talks with Israel (see below).

According to Turkish daily Hurriyet, Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt – led by Islamist thug Erdogan - have decided not to participate in an initiative to bring together Israel with Arab countries to discuss cooperation for security and stability in the Mediterranean. Which, of course, makes perfect sense since Islamist regimes in Turkey and Egypt don’t want security or stability in the Mediterranean, as that would mean their populations might start looking inward.

[As a reminder, Turkey also vetoed Israel's participation in NATO’s Chicago Summit in May 2012, as well as an Israeli request to have a permanent office at NATO.]

Why would Erdogan do this right after Israeli PM Netanyahu’s (very ill-advised) apology to Turkey for the illegal Mavi Marmara? Because as we’ve said multiple times on these pages (e.g., “Feeding The Beast”; “Turkish Piece of Work”) giving into extortion never works, as extortionists always come back for more.

To the Obama administration we say: Your proclivity to grovel in front of America’s enemies has not served America or its allies well. Just look at Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, Egypt, Russia, Syria and many more.

So stop traveling around the world, President Obama, and teaching the few real allies America has left, on how to appease and bow.

Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt have decided not to participate in an initiative to bring together Israel with Arab countries to discuss cooperation for security and stability in the Mediterranean, Turkish daily Hurriyet reported Saturday.

The Mediterranean Dialogue group, a delegation of NATO which was established in 2004, has not met since 2008. The discussions involve Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria and Jordan.

“The general-secretary was planning to invite the foreign ministers of the Mediterranean Dialogue countries on the sidelines of the NATO foreign ministers meeting scheduled for April 23 but Turkey objected to the idea,” an anonymous Western diplomat told Hurriyet.

Following Israel’s apology to Turkey for the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident which left nine Turks dead, Western powers reportedly hoped to encourage further discussion between the two countries, and decided to organize an official meeting with the Mediterranean Dialogue group.

“It’s not right that we have objected. This sort of meeting was not held since 2008 because of the political problems between Israel and Arab countries. At this stage, such a meeting would not be useful,” a Turkish official was quoted as saying.

Turkey also reportedly vetoed Israel's participation in NATO’s Chicago Summit in May 2012, as well as an Israeli request to have a permanent office at NATO.

Despite the Israeli apology, that was mediated by US President Barack Obama during his visit to Israel last month, tensions do not seem to have completely vanished, as is evident by this development.
