Jerk(s) of the Year Award
December 16, 2011
Although we are still accepting nominations for Jerk(s) of the Year Award, we'd like to offer up two for your consideration:
The first, is the New York Times and its op-ed columnists, including Thomas Friedman and Nicholas Kristoff. Why? See below.
The second, is the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, for honoring U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice on Wednesday, with its Annual National Service Award.
Remember Rice's tirade against Israel in the UN Security Council, as the administration reluctantly vetoed a UN resolution condemning Israel's settlement activity? To quote Ms. Rice:
"Our opposition to the resolution before this Council today should therefore not be misunderstood to mean we support settlement activity. On the contrary, we reject in the strongest terms the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity. For more than four decades, Israeli settlement activity in territories occupied in 1967 has undermined Israel's security and corroded hopes for peace and stability in the region. Continued settlement activity violates Israel's international commitments, devastates trust between the parties, and threatens the prospects for peace."
This is the person the Conference [of Useful Idiots] honors? In accepting her Award, Ms. Rice applauded President Barack Obama's record on Israel, saying "From the moment he took office, President Obama's guidance has been clear: to strengthen and deepen that commitment [to Israel]."
Ms. Rice's statement complements Mr. Obama's humble statement from a couple weeks ago, i.e., "I try not to pat myself too much on the back, but this administration has done more for the security of the state of Israel than any previous administration."
