ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Brigadier General Yosef Kuperwasser (res) is one of Israel's most senior intelligence officers. Until June 2006, he served as head of IDF Military Intelligence/Analysis Division, and was responsible for preparing Israel's National Intelligence Assessment and for early warning. Prior to that, General Kuperwasser served as head of Intelligence for IDF Central Command, and as Asst. Defense Attaché for Intelligence at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.

During his military service, General Kuperwasser was involved in shaping the way Israel coped with the threat of terror and processed/understood regional developments, and sharing those understandings with the U.S. and other foreign officials. In October 2006, the General was a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Middle East Policy of the Brookings Institution.

General Kuperwasser is co-founder and Vice President of Global CST, a global security consulting firm. The success of the recent “Colombian Entebbe” operation - the dramatic rescue operation, which took place earlier this month, of 15 hostages (including three Americans and former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt) held captive for 6 years by Marxist rebels in Colombia (FARC) - was recently attributed by world media to "people who were trained by Israeli intelligence”. The Israeli "angle" - which involved dozens of Israeli security experts who helped the Colombian Army plan, train, strategize, and develop its intelligence sources - was indeed coordinated by General Kuperwasser and Global CST.
