ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Lt. Colonel Bill Cowan USMC (ret) is an internationally acknowledged expert in the areas of military special operations, terrorism, intelligence and homeland security. A retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Cowan served as senior operations officer and field operative for one of the Pentagon's most classified counterterrorist organizations and was involved in numerous operations in the Middle East in response to terrorist incidents and the holding of Western hostages. Prior to that, Cowan spent three-and-a-half years on special combat assignments in Vietnam, and played a major role as a U.S. Senate staffer in drafting the legislation which created the U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida.

Colonel Cowan is co-founder and CEO of WVC3, a company that has provided homeland security services and support to the U.S. Government since the events of 9/11. He is also a long-time FOX News Channel military analyst and has appeared as guest commentator/ contributor on numerous television programs including CBS's 60 Minutes, CNN's Crossfire, ABC’s Prime Time and 20/20, PBS's Frontline,  BBC's Panorama, and many others. He has participated in numerous documentaries about Viet Nam and terrorism, and is the principal subject of a Discovery Channel documentary about a successful hostage rescue operation he conducted in 1990 in Iraqi-occupied Kuwait.

Colonel Cowan’s extensive experience, his numerous trips to the Middle East and his company's activities throughout the region - including Iraq and Afghanistan - continue to make him a much sought-after and highly respected analyst/commentator on matters of national security and the threats facing us and our allies today.
